History of Auterive

The name derives from the Latin terms “alta” (tall) and “ripa” (bank).

The land of Auterive was sold by the Abbey of Grandselve to Aynard de Faudoas in April 1192.   Béraud de Faudoas gave the Land Charter to his vassals the 28th August 1276.  This land was under the control of Faudoas.  It belonged to the Faudoas family until 1517, when Catherine de Faudoas married a member of the Rochechouart family.  Jean-Phoebus de Rochechouart, the Marquis of Faudoas, sold the land to Jean Cassaigneau, a Toulousian parliamentary councillor, in August 1651.  Mr Clément de Vernhes, Judge of Beaumont, obtained this land from Mr Cassaigneau the 30th August 1680.
