History of Marignac
The name derives from the Gallo-Roman name “Marinius”.
The parish is recorded for the first time in the 1318 papal bull creating Montauban diocese. In 1367 the lordship used to belong to Geraud de Caussade, Bertrand de Faudoas et Raymond-Arnaud de Preissac. The last one of these lords gave all his properties to the four mendicant orders. In the 17th century the lordship was in the possession of the Rouchechouart-Barbazan family, which was the vassal of the Viscounts of Lomagne.
Saint-Peter and Saint-Paul church dates from the 14th century, but it has been refurbished several times, especially after the damages caused by the Wars of Religion. The only original part remaining is the 14th portal.
