History of Marsac
The name derives from the Gallo-Roman name “Martius”.
Marsac village is located on a hillock. It was first a Roman «oppidum», a fortified site. In the 11th century this “oppidum” became a “castelnau”, where a huge square tower was surrounded by the inhabitants' houses.
In the 15th century Hélène de Voisins ordered the building of a house. The stables and other pieces were built in 1563; lots of refurbishments were done during the 18th and 19th centuries.
The parish church dates from the 14th century, but it was completely restored in 1858.
